Hey guys!

So I thought it might be fun to have a thread where we can record ourselves performing something and then share it with the community.

Maybe this thread should've been in the Secret forum, but whatever. We can move it if we need to.

Here's my own contribution to start things off. Sorry about all the "uhms.." and the yadda-yadda. I actually got a little nervous doing this 😅

Anyways, here's me playing an untitled song:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sOpT_5wMGtD2hxIGLkIbSjuHf-NkrmoP/view?usp=drivesdk

I'm not much of a piano player, but it lets me play the chords with melody on top.

I tried producing it once, but it was just a little too boring and perhaps not very original sounding. I might try again at some point.

So whatcha got? 🙂

Ooh! I love this thread idea! And your piano composition was absolutely lovely.

I record so many little noodles that aren't really proper songs or compositions and this is an excellent way to share them with you all! I was so excited that I turned on the synths just now and recorded this little thing with my phone mic, because when inspiration strikes, who has time for polished audio. This is real, raw stuff. No video because I couldn't get a good angle :(

So I just sequenced two little ideas on the Moog, played some Jarre-esque phased chords on the Ultranova, looped those and did my best Kitaro impression with the melodic Moog solo.

I hope you enjoy!

I like your piece a lot - very melancholic and melodic. Feels like a fog bank rolling in.

This is a little old but I've recently been reworking it and might use this opportunity to record something new

This is the last piece I completed - a song for my niece once I found out my sister was pregnant.

@Mrs. Waffles hey, that's really fun! Definitely puts me in mind of Jarre 😊 There's something fun about synth and using their arpeggiators and stuff. It's this flow which is very fun to ride along with.

We had a Jarre / Kraftwerk parody band 20 years ago which was called Cosmical Tranquility 😄 just 3 guys and 3 synths. No recordings have survived, fortunately.

Thanks for your compliment 🙂 sea fog sounds fitting. A lot of my inspiration comes from that sort of imagery.

Also, I love your song 🥰 so nice! And I really like your voice too and wish I had your confidence and daring.

Maybe I'll sing something here? But my voice is like a cat passing a kidney stone. Anyways, thanks for this 😊

Here's me playing some Zappa:

@Mrs. Waffles also I feel you on the noodles. I got oodles of them. Might be fun to share for creative feedback / input 🤔

@Guybrush Thank you for listening! I would have loved to hear that band haha, my old high school band's recordings have been lost as well, and I'm similarly glad for that fact. I could probably go through my archives and upload some other highlights of my electronic music, both noodles and more complete tracks, as well as future noodles. You making this thread really inspired me to get creative, so thank you once again.

And that was a very lovely rendition of Uncle Remus! Really brought out the beauty in Zappa's composition.

Thank you so much for your wonderful compliment 🥰 A little undeserved maybe?! But that's probably just my own insecurity

Just for fun, here's me playing Milano Per Caso while fumbling quite a bit on the piano at work. It's not that it's so difficult to play, but this is a cheap piano someone's storing temporarily at work (it's been temporarily stored for about a year) and some of the keys are sticky, some hardly make a sound unless you hit them real hard and they're all a little awful.

I love the Aksak Maboul version which is technically a cover, but I don't think people in general are familiar with the source/original.

Not undeserved at all! I think it works really well stripped down to the basics like that.

And that was a cool piece you played at your work as well, sounds very ominous yet sophisticated.

I'm pretty bad at playing stuff meant for acoustic piano beyond really simple compositions, most of my work on the keys is my own improv-heavy pieces where I'm holding down some pad chords with the left hand while doing some right hand prog rock soloing and such. I'm self taught so I learned the styles I like to play, haha.

Thanks @Mrs. Waffles 🙂

Here's me playing (sometimes badly) one of the unfinished original songs from our folk band Gladlaksene. Our front man/singer is also the composer and his compositions are a huge inspiration for me. He is my muse.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1D6h4pJPj7cYVIHW0OwoLaCsrl_RdhOch/view?usp=drivesdk

This song is slightly contentious (although we're very amicable) in that the other two guys are adamant it should only be released with vocals and lyrics (which have been uncompleted for 10 years or so) whereas I have wanted to make an instrumental version (because I think it works and our composer never finishes writing it).

I made a demo to convince them which I quite like, but it failed 😅 It wasn't good enough. I could share that too, but I don't want mp3s of my demos out in the real world. However, if anyone's curious, you can send me a PM 🙂

That was very cool! Living up to your MB username.

About noodles, here's a spooky noodle that's been rattling around my brain for years.

I think I've sometimes played it as a spooky sorta interlude at a concert or two, like background music to some talk, but I've yet to develop it into a fully fledged song.

Here's me playing a spooky song that I've named The Sea's Embrace (Havets favn). It's about drowning :)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UO91w6QvrIb6EQInxp4AgMa3rj5AWwKS/view?usp=drivesdk

It has a melody line which you can't hear here, but you can hear it in the published version below played on violin. It comes in around halfway.

I do feel like the production was a little rushed, but basically it was a song / tune that had been in my brain for years and years.

The story behind its publication is I was going to release another song, Havets Have (Garden of the Sea), which is about two friends out in a boat where one of them gets his foot tangled in the rope for a crab trap. As he sinks into the sea, he sings this upbeat song to his friend, urging him to one day take his boat out to sea and find him in the garden of the sea. I imagined this garden to be a place of anemones, crabs and starfish where you could live an afterlife with these sea creatures, so the theme was a bit like let's drown together and spend eternity in the ocean.

That song is very upbeat, so then I had the idea to juxtapose it with an intro song illustrating in music the drowning and sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Then the upbeat song comes afterwards, kinda signalling the arrival at the garden of the seas.

Because it was just an intro, I didn't spend much time on it so now there are already some things I wish I'd done different  but I guess that's how it is.

Edit:

Google drive didn't like the video it seems? Re-uploaded!

I love this, especially the studio version! Is there an album?

An old Russian song
https://photos.app.goo.gl/hotQBPo1iUC4nTeC6

Translation:
Everything is ghostly in this raging world,
There is only a moment, hold on to it.
There is only a moment between the past and the future,
And it is it that is called life.

Eternal peace is unlikely to please the heart,
Eternal peace is for the gray pyramids.
But for the star that has torn itself loose and is falling,
There is only a moment, a blinding moment.

May this world fly into the distance through centuries,
But I don't always share its path.
What do I cherish, what do I risk in this world?
Just one moment, just one moment.

Whether I'll meet happiness or misfortune,
There is only a moment, hold on to it.
There is only a moment between the past and the future,
And it is it that is called life.
