Title: Heartbreak Hotel
Post by: DJChameleon on Jan 06, 2024, 07:21 PM
I'm stuck musically, all I have been listening lately are break up songs.

List your favorites in this thread.

I'm compiling break up songs from all genres and putting them into a single playlist. The more genres the better imo.

It starts off with this gem.

Here's a song which I find very moving: not precisely describing a breakup, more like the consequent feelings some months down the road:-

Here are a few I thought of 🙂

Steely Dan's Haitian Divorce:

And The Slits' cover of Heard It Through the Grapevine:

And I guess you can't do much better ballad-wise than Harry Nilsson singing Without You.

Nice! I feel like it's lesser known, but still such a great song 👌

Not a favourite of mine, but it fits the topic of the thread. The artist is Olivia Rodrigo:-

Yeah she has a bunch of songs talking about break ups and her exes.

I stumbled across this song a couple of days ago and loved it.

I relate to it so much because in my last relationship my ex didn't give me any peace. Big time drama queen that wanted to argue all the time.

Despite these guys' advice, it's hard not to feel crappy sometimes. Sad lyrics in an awesome samba/bossa.

Trio Mocoto - "Não adianta" ("It's No Use")

It's no use
It's no use weeping
It's no use crying
It's no use
It's no use

Whatever we want
whatever we love
life is giving it to us
the problem is to find...
the problem is to find...

and I went out trying to find
love in someone
in order to feel the beauty that's there
in living and loving
I loved and loved and came back to the same place
I loved and loved and came back to the same place

It's no use weeping
It's no use crying
It's no use
It's no use

Usher still putting out gems.

This song is more about when you are mature enough to still be friends with your ex and wish them the best but know that you aren't cut out to be in a relationship together.

What's up DJ? I'm glad to see some old faces here. (It's Sparky from Musicbanter way back). Got sick of reddit and didn't know where to go.

Anyway:

Alanis Morissette - "You Oughta Know"

Allegedly inspired by her relationship with Full House actor Dave Coulier – who played Uncle Joey on the famed sitcom. The pair dated for two years after meeting in 1992.
